The Connected Experience

Curating health and wellness data across products and platforms

Understanding members and what motivates them

Users of American Specialty Health’s network and services come from diverse backgrounds, demographics, and locations across the country, united by a common goal: improving their health. Whether young or elderly, already fit or just beginning their fitness journey, members are primarily motivated by personal goals. We found that while incentives and accessibility help initiate participation, the underlying goal of health and wellness drives sustained engagement and continued activity.

With this understanding, we set out to optimize how our companion applications support members in enhancing their lifestyles and achieving their goals.

centralizing that information

American Specialty Health programs are designed to integrate with (though not require) common fitness trackers such as Fitbit, Garmin, and Apple Watch. The majority of members rely on these third-party devices to log their activity, often resulting in multiple platforms for monitoring health data.

By consolidating data from fitness trackers alongside incentive information, user-reported inputs, and program details, we created a centralized experience where participants can manage their health-related activities and goals in one place. For example, while reviewing progress toward a monthly step goal, members can also log nutrition information or explore nearby social wellness programs.

guiding and being FLEXIBLE

Members approach their health journeys with different goals, motivations, and program requirements. To accommodate this diversity, we developed a consistent product architecture that can be tailored to specific program experiences while maintaining a cohesive user experience.

The “Connected” dashboard, powered by personalized member data, serves as the central hub for monitoring health metrics and tracking progress. Members can align their goals with incentive program requirements or customize them to reflect their individual fitness levels and aspirations.
